Museum; Aydin Province is named after the ancient city of Miletos, located in the village of Didim, just north of the village of Balat. The museum was opened in 1965 as a warehouse in the Balat Elementary School on the Milet Ruins, depending on the Aydın Museum. In 1967 primary school was demolished and the present museum building was built instead. The museum was opened in 1973. Between 1965 and 1973, the museum was in charge of warehouse-clerking status in Aydın Museum. In 1973 he was promoted to headquarters status.
It was closed in November 2000 due to the fact that the existing museum building is in danger due to static problems. The search for a new museum building was started. In September 2007, the construction of the new building was started at the same place and the construction was started. The project related to the exposition of the works has been prepared and approved by the Ministry of İzmir's Directorate of Landscape and Monuments. The museum will be opened in the open after the completion of the exhibition and installation project.
The districts of Didim and Söke are the responsibility of the Miletus Museum. The museum collection has a total of over 20,000 intellectual registered works, including approximately 7300 archaeological, 93 ethnographic, and nearly 13,000 coins. Most of the works in the collection came from the ruins of Milet, Didim and Priene ruins and from the excavations in these areas.
The most important find group of the museum is the works of the Archaic Period. Due to the fact that the ancient city of Miletus has an important Archaic settlement, the works of the Archaic Period, especially in the excavations of recent years, will bring sound in the world of science.
